President/Owner
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to
the Gulf Marine Repair shipyard and introduce you to our facility through
this Web site. As you can see, we offer comprehensive, full-service
accommodations, staffed by a team of professional, experienced personnel
led by a top notch, “hands on” supervisory cadre.
Gulf Marine Repair Corp. commenced
operations in 1988 when we assumed the Tampa Port Authority lease held
since 1964 by the former firm, Gulf Tampa Drydock Co., where the bulk of
the current supervisory and middle management staff originally began
their careers.
Our game plan has always been to deliver
your equipment back to you on schedule and on target with your
anticipated budget constraints. We firmly believe in keeping things
simple and practicable and working on an informal format with a minimum
amount of “red tape.” Thus we are able to implement changes on a same-day
basis so as to minimize delays. You may be assured there will be no
hassles or other impediments to a quality, down-to-earth work product. We
strive to develop lasting relationships with our clientele.
Our market niche has always been integrated
tug and barge units, with heavy emphasis on OPA 90 double hull
conversions for liquid cargo, as well as dry bulk ITB carriers. Our
resident on-board marine engineering staff can handle any design/build
project in timely fashion.
Gulf Marine is in the process of converting
the former Tampa Electric Co. Hookers Point power plant facility into
additional shipyard space and moving a portion of our facility there. We
are currently refurbishing the infrastructure and constructing 1,100 ft
of new deep water bulkhead.
We place heavy emphasis on quality control,
safety and environmental matters, and devote a strong focus on training
personnel on these issues. Environmental controls in Florida are among
the most stringent in the nation.
You many rest assured that you will get your
money’s worth at Gulf Marine and we look forward to serving you.
